Paint fumes and beer

Each stage so far has been exciting to start but by the end we can’t wait to be done with it. I think it’s because we tend to take a little longer than we’re suppose to. The joys of being an obsessive compulsive perfectionist who questions every decision. Anywho . . .

The drywall mudding went pretty well. We didn’t really have to sand much until the last coat. Then the dust was flying. A friend stopped by with some beer and although I don’t even really like beer, it seemed like a good way to cap off major milestones – although we keep forgetting to take any up there.

I did a whirlwind 48 hr trip back down to Vancouver to pick up the rest of the kitchen. Of course it happened to be the first major snow storm of the season and everywhere south of here was pretty icky.  It was snowing quite heavily as the ferry was leaving Horseshoe Bay but by the time we got to Nanaimo it was raining. I was relieved the next day when the further north I drove, the less snow there was. Back on our island it was as green as usual.

We loaded up the can with all my IKEA purchases. It’s nice to have a dry place to store all this but we really need to start emptying it if we want to be able to walk around in there.

Then back to work we went.  At some point you just have to say we are done trying to fix all the little compound holes and start with the primer already!

Now we are done painting! Mostly. We’ve left the bathroom for the time being because we need to do a bit more mudding in there but another milestone has passed and we are on to new things.

Unfortunately by the time we are finished each day there is little to no light outside. The pictures don’t really show the true colours but for now they will have to do.  First we painted the ceiling. It’s the same colour as most of the wall area.

Next, all the walls with the exception of the end one.   The end one got a plum colour. In some light I think it looks kinda purple so I’ve been calling it the Barney wall (like the big purple dinosaur). Most of the time I like the colour, there’s just a lot of it. Time and furnishings will tell.

And the bedroom colour is called dark pewter. It’s a blueish grey. In this picture the paint wasn’t quite dry yet and those damn halogen work lights are evil.

Our temperatures are back to normal again, around 6 degrees, but it was chilly here for a while. On one of our WD walks we encountered some frosty stones on the beach. It was quite pretty but I must admit I am glad it didn’t last.

  1. Wow on the colors and paint job and those stones are fabulous…..what a treat to see them (and the wandering dog of course). We have lots of snow and cold blowing weather back here which means a white Christmas for sure!. Love AT
