So close I can taste it . . . oh wait that’s concrete dust

Just when I think we are getting ahead it always seems we take five steps in the wrong direction.

Although I don’t think anyone other than tiling people use the word lippage, it still accurately reflects the problem and is still a very bad word – this time on the flooring.  It was simple and fast to lay the luxury vinyl plank floor but it really doesn’t like any debris whatsoever underneath it or it causes lippage with the plank next to it. If there are variances in the concrete floor, that causes lippage too.  It’s such a dirty word now it is banned from our vocabulary from this day forward. It seems so very wrong to be grinding concrete after you’ve put up and painted all the drywall. There is dust everywhere.

But the floor is in and with the exception of it being being quite dirty it does look pretty good.

The kitchen is now very close to being functional. The appliances arrived mostly intact. We had to send back the microwave since it looked like it had been kicked down a hill. There is no way to know who is responsible since it went through UPS , Purolator and Canada Post to get here (the joys of small island living).  This picture shows our pretend counter layout. The cabinet doors and cover panels have a plastic layer on them still so they aren’t a true colour representation.

Being the obsessive, crazy perfectionist I am, I had to take down some of the cabinets and make some slight adjustments that would have driven me nuts if I had left them. More steps backwards but now all the doors are on with the exception of the end one that faces the couch.

Our lighting is all in place but still waiting for the breakers to be wired in the panel.  We had more snow this week than we’ve had since moving here. Of course, being the wet coast, it rained all night and the snow is now gone.

And finally, as of yesterday, we have a functioning bathroom, with the exception of a door. How exciting is that? Of course it took more grinding of concrete for the toilet to sit flat. More dust everywhere, sigh.

Down to the final details now to be done enough to move in before March. Looking forward to some well-deserved (in my opinion anyway) time off.

Lippage is a very bad word
All moved in but still a little chaotic

  1. Wow, sick of building yet???? It looks great and will surely be a treat to move in and just sit and enjoy the view for a while. That snow looked like home, glad the rain took it away. We have had snow, ice and cold cold days here of late. I’m ready to head west!!! Love AT
