We are always out exploring around our island and it never ceases to amaze me that we almost never see another person on our walks. Usually we stick to our favourites but here is one of the new places that can now be ticked off the list. The beach is great – when no one is there – but it is difficult to get to and on weekends it attracts a different kind of wild crowd than what we are after.
WD got in for a swim last week for the first time this year and this week discovered mink are really fun to chase but they seem to completely disappear when they hit the water. He stood there pawing around for quite some time before finally giving up.
He also tried out a new job but was wore out before the end of the day and promptly quit when he realized there were no snacks in the office.
One day we stumbled upon a giant gnarly tree. WD happily sat at the bottom for size reference. It is nice to see a few large trees are still standing.
Now the cruise ship season has started and they seem to be going back and forth between Alaska and Vancouver every day. Today was the first day we saw them on the town side of the island. There was one this morning headed north and this Disney cruise headed south this evening. The sheer size of this thing is mind-boggling. 2700 passengers, 950 crew, 964 feet long, 103 feet at its widest, 11 passenger decks. That little speck you see in front of it in this shot is our car ferry. If this ship were full that’s around 5 times the number of people living here on Malcolm. Yikes! That’s a lot of people.
Oh wow, can’t wait till Friday, want to see that tree and the beach reminds me of Long Beach but more private. WD looks his fine happy self (sometimes….pretty bored looking at the office though) xo AT
